First, doing any sort of economic activity is relevant for economic development because it is positively associated with a multitude of economic development externalities, inter alia: wealth creation and sharing; opportunities of employment; balanced economic and regional prosperity; exports; standards of living, gross domestic product (GDP) and GDP per capita. Compared to other regions of the world, the African continent and precisely Cameroon is lagging in all these characteristics, which reflects inherent challenges to doing business in the continent that are limiting entrepreneurship and conducive business environments needed for investment and economic prosperity
Through its Behaviour Change Communication program, SACOD in partnership with local health authorities and staff sensitize members of the local community on adequate prevention strategies against major diseases prevalent in the communities in which it operates, employing basic methods such as hand washing and the provision of additional WASH services.
SACOD supports smallholder farmers with training; skills, knowledge, and inputs they need to increase productivity, access markets, and develop profitable farm businesses, progressing SDG1 &2.
It will also prioritize gender mainstreaming to address gender inequalities to contribute to SDG5. By promoting climate-smart technologies that increase productivity whilst conserving natural resources it will also help towards SDG7. Specialist skills and experience in Sustainable Agriculture (SA), Gender and Social Development (G&SD), Improved Animal management (IAM) and marketing are well matched to meet the identified challenges of beneficiaries.
SACOD complements the GoC plans for development (Vision 2035) identifying agriculture as key for economic growth and poverty reduction and will collaborate with local government ministries and international partners to achieve food security, livelihoods, wealth creation, and employment in this region of high poverty.
